A masonry chimney cap and a factory-built chimney termination are different components. A chase cover is also distinct from a cap. Replacing one component will not necessarily fix deterioration in another.

Will a cap stop every chimney leak?
No. It addresses entry at the flue opening. Water may also enter through damaged crowns, flashing, masonry, or chase covers. A leak assessment can determine whether more than the cap needs attention.
Can any cap be used on a metal chimney?
No. Factory-built systems often require listed, compatible components. The system identification and manufacturer guidance should be checked before a replacement is chosen.
